Idols & Divas in You’re Beautiful

Korean dramas like occupations, or it seems so. After a focus on airport controllers in Air City and drama production in On Air, we have another drama that takes a slice of life. Trendy drama, You’re Beautiful is the new series helmed by the noted sister screenwriters Hong Jung Eun and Hong Mi Ran.

Known for light hearted and often comedic korean dramas such as My Girl and Fantasy Couple, the Hong Sisters are the perfect duo for the job. You’re Beautiful is another idol drama, literally. Its plot revolves around the life of a kpop boyband thats on the peak of their popularity and success. The twist? One of the members is a girl masquerading as a guy.

Jang Geun Suk
(Beethoven Virus, Hong Gil Dong) as Hwang TaeKyeong
The highly sensitive, clean freak leader of top boyband A.N.JELL He comes across as someone who is very arrogant, but inside that ssagaji exterior is a boy who was rejected by his famous mother.

Park Shin Hye
(Tree of Heaven, Goong S) as Go Mi Nyeo / Go Mi Nam
A nun in training, when her twin brother (an aspiring singer, wants to be famous ) becomes injured just as he was about to be signed into A.N.JELL Go Mi Nyeo is asked to pose as her brother. Pure hearted but naive, she speaks in formal Korean because of her upbringing in the covent.

Lee Hong Ki
(F.T. Island) as Jeremy
A British Korean gyopo who is the most lovable in the group. He has a very positive attitude and the center of the balance between his members. With his smile all is forgiven and is the member that shows off the most fan service.

Jung Yong Hwa
(C.N. Blue) as Kang Shinwoo
Mysterious when in real life he is actually quite expressionless. He is the most mature one in the group and is very perceptive of things around him. First member to notice that Mi Nyeo is a girl.

The first two episodes have already been aired, and so far it shows potential as a hit drama. Jang Geun Suk seems comfortable in his role as the emo guy with a wounded past, and Park Shin Hye plays a perfect foil as the naive convent girl. FT Island’s Lee Hong Ki is effortless bubbly and adorable as the group’s moodmaker while fresh face Jung Yong Hwa is doing quite well as the nice guy.
